Week of 27 October
- 27 October: Coca-Cola before the open; Visa after the close - 28 October, after the close: Alphabet and Microsoft - 29 October: Eli Lilly, Mastercard and Merck before the open; Intel after the close; Amazon (time not yet announced) - 30 October: AbbVie and Chevron before the open; ExxonMobil (time not yet announced)
Why 28 October stands out
The Federal Reserve announces its rate decision at 2:00 PM ET on 28 October, and Alphabet and Microsoft report after the close the same day. Two of the largest index weights reporting hours after a Fed decision can make for an unusually busy session in Nasdaq-100 futures and options, and implied volatility often rises into events like these. Our central bank tracker has the Fed's current rate and the other banks deciding that week.
Reading an earnings date
- "Before the open" and "after the close" refer to the US cash session (9:30 AM–4:00 PM ET). - A company can beat analysts' forecasts and still fall, because the market reacts to guidance and to what was already expected. - Dates come from the Alpha Vantage earnings calendar and can change; each company's own announcement is final.
